Equine Voices Rescue & Sanctuary's mission is to rescue equines from neglect, abuse, abandonment and slaughter. Additionally, we rehabilitate, adopt and/or provide a safe and loving sanctuary to those equines who need a forever home. Through education, we empower individuals to learn about Premarin and horse slaughter.
This 8 1/2 year old gelding has a long road ahead of him.
He is bordering on foundering, with rotation of both front coffin bones. He has been put in pads and shoes to help level out his hooves and coffin bones and alleviate some of his pain. He is on a special "soaked" hay diet, that removes some of the sugar, as well as a regime of medications to keep his pain symptoms controlled.
This will be a long recovery for him! With vet care, medications, farrier work, and special feed. His treatment will cost an estimated of $800/month.
Little Man:
This precious 2 1/2 year old colt was discovered alone, starving and barely alive in the "Dogpatch." This area south of Tucson is notorious for animal dumping and cruelty. We were too late to save this little one, as his organs had already begun to shut down when we arrived. It was decided with our vet that "Little Man" was too far gone to save. He was euthanized in the trailer in a Circle K parking lot, as he was too sick to transport.
He is now resting eternal on our sanctuary.
Star's Wind:
This stallion was found alone in the desert, following the death of his owner.
He showed a lot of behavioral issues at his arrival, as he was not completely gelded. This procedure was done by our vet soon after his arrival, in the hopes that it would help some of his behavior concerns.
He is a sweet boy that has slowly warmed up to his new caregivers. While he is still housed alone due to those behavior issues, he is by no means isolated from the remainder of the herd. His neighbors are Maya, Diamond Rio, Mystic, and Angelina.
Gigi and Eclipse:
Gigi came to us with her sister, Chloe, in late 2023. Unbeknownst to us, Gigi was pregnant! She delivered a healthy baby boy in the early morning of April 9th, 2024. Born under his namesake, the solar eclipse, he is a bouncing ball of energy that has adjusted extremely well with the mustang herd, he is learning to accept a halter
Annabelle:
This big, beautiful mare came to us in late 2024. Suffering from a badly infected and swollen back leg, she was immediately taken to Nogales Veterinary, where it was determined that she has chronic cellulitis from an old, unknown injury. She was abandoned on a woman's property, and is several hundred pounds underweight.
She has thrived under our care, and is becoming a healthier weight. She was housed alone initially, to allow for some special feeding and treatment of her leg. It became evident that she needed a friend, as she would call and cry for the mustang herd when she couldn't see them during the day.
She was moved in to Lucky's corral and has done much better.
The week of March 17, it was noted that her leg swelling was increasing and more medications were received from the vet for her care.
Check out the video of Annabelle's Arrival!!
